A Christmas memory to treasure

Sitting in the board room at my new company ("South Estuary Digital," ShED), drinking cheap wine and singing along with (the female half of) my colleagues (as we voted on the best Chrismas song of all time):
"You scumbag you maggot
"You cheap lousy faggot
"Happy christmas your arse I pray god it´s our last."

A song which, seven years ago, I'd never heard of. Remember singing it at some karaoke party at Trish and Simon's "back in the day." I think it's an incredibly depressing song but it is full of memories these days and tonight's singing was certainly one for the life store.

I love that song. Of course I have a special fondness for jaunty tunes coupled with miserable lyrics, which makes Kirsty MacColl a favorite of mine in general.

Which reminds me to find out if Amazon still has a copy of Paul Heaton's latest.

It's sad, but the sadness of Kirsty singing "You took my dreams from me," followed by Shane singing "I kept them with me, babe" always nails me. It's the sadness and small hope of people who have been with each other for so long that they can't imagine being apart, but can't really be together any more -- an emotion I can relate to.
