It's the day before my first payday

I'm pleased to say I've actually made it this whole time with just one cash withdrawal, though, truth be told, I would have REALLY liked it if I could have taken money out of my freaking HSBC account. Why did they sit on my application for so long? Where is my ATM card? Grr. I have thirteen pounds and thirty-four "pee" (after my trip to Tesco this morning, cream scones YUM!) to get me through until lunch tomorrow, which I think will cover a movie at the Prince Charles cinema. I also have my emergency backup of US dollars just in case. I'll skip the farmer's market today as it could result in Inability to Purchase Movie Tickets, which would be a very bad thing.

I'm hoping that by Monday I'll know whether or not I've got the flat. I figure they're waiting to see if my paycheck deposits. I understand the feeling.

The Star Candidate has accepted our offer, which makes me very happy. Now I get to wait for a month before she shows up.

Um, okay, now work. And scones. Mmmm.

LATER: Oooh, I have found a place to get my Mexican food ingredients, including green sauce and my favorite tequila! YAY! (And there's supposed to be good Mexican in Brixton? Who knew!)

If anything goes wrong with getting my paycheck tomorrow, I will take you up on that.

So ... what are you doing Sunday?
Sep. 28th, 2006 09:15 am (UTC)
This being not about finances but rather about whether or not we can hang out.

Hoping to be well enough to go to Fetish Fair, so could see you there - if not hanging out at home sounds good :)

Sounds good :) At this point I think I'm going to have to sleep for a week...

at your disposal
I have no plans at all for Sunday and no one at home to distract/entertain me, so I'd love to spend it with you. Just tell me where and when. (I was thinking maybe I could crash at your pad after Simon's party ... but, you know, only if that works.)

Like the food links. There's a place in Dublin's organic food market at Temple Bar that I try to get to whenever I'm over. Have also carried maseca back on the plane!
Have you seen http://www.mexgrocer.co.uk/ ?

Aggh, but I see no place to buy enchilada sauce! What will I do?

Re: fooood
Might be makeable. Turkish cheese is pretty close to Mexican by the way and widely available in London.

Re: fooood
I do have a recipe for enchilada sauce. Maybe I'll learn how to do canning and make my own. God, that would be funny!

Like Pizarro looking for the Fountain of Youth
Finding good Mexican food in London will be my endless quest, just like finding the best gelato was my goal in Italy. I will keep you posted!

There's an excellent Mexican restaurant on Streatham High Road (towards Streatham Hill). Great food and drinks (with the ability to order off the menu and substitute) and great customer service! I couldn't find a website, but the contact info is: El Chico`s Mexican Cantina Cafe & Tequila Bar, 62 Streatham High Road, SW16 1DA, 020 8677 5100.

Thanks to following the links from this entry, I found a Mexican delivery here. I will be trying it at the earliest possible opportunity.

There's a good Mexican place near Warren Street called Mestina as well.

I still like Bodeans for American food - mmmm, ribs and beans, and big bowls of chowder!

I've been referred by a coworker to a weekend-only cantina on Goswell Road between Peartree and Compton (near the Barbican) that I must, must check out as soon as possible.

Ooooh, thanks for that!

Although I haven't tried it yet, I've heard wonderful things about Big Easy. Mmmm, New England Clam Chowder and Maine lobster.

I, however, will absolutely go there with you.

Re: Bodeans
I was thinking about getting a group of Americans (and those who like American food) together to go. Interested?

Alternately, the four of us could go instead of going somewhere in Streatham when we meet up in November... I saw webcowgirl's comment about fish, but they do have things like ribs and brisket!

You might be interested to browse http://london.openguides.org/, which was set up (I think) my a friend of mine, nou, and has lots of reviews of all kinds of things.
