Boston Harbor rocks!

Kayaking today was about the best thing I can imagine doing. We had good luck and got there close to high tide, which means we had just a tiny little assist as we paddled away from the marina and pretty much slack water as we were coming back. On the way, we saw two harbor seals, a blue heron that soared over us like some giant flying dinosaur, little baby crabs, and ... coolest of all ... a bed of starfish 10 feet or so underwater, which we were just able to see as we kayaked over it because of the angle of the sun shining through the lovely emerald waters. Almost the whole way I felt like I was sitting on a sea of satin, and when we had paddled into the far reaches of (what I discovered to be) Gull Harbor I felt like we were in the middle of a jigsaw puzzle ... the pine trees leaning off of the gentle banks into the still salt water ... the almost strobing effect of the sun's reflection bouncing to the treetrunks and leaves ... it made the whole drive worth while, not that there was anything to complain about.

When we got out, the Boston Harbor community was having their annual potluck, and in keeping with my genetic heritage I felt pretty free to help myself to some food. They had seafood galore, which I ignored, but also 8 different kinds of peach cobbler, which caught by eye with their saucy twinkle. But I couldn't eat too much .. I had to leave room for Cassis. We did make it, but our experience there pales in comparison to our fabulous afternoon. What a great way to end the summer!
