New Year, New Resolutions

Based on my book reading and buying statistics (read, 43, bought, 66), I've managed to seriously get my book buying and reading habits into alignment, especially when you consider the number of books on the "bought" list that are reference books and thus not likely to reach "read" status (this requires cover to cover reading, not sensible for cookbooks). I resolve to read more books next year - I'll aim for 50.

Somehow I managed to see 93 shows last year. I'm not going to plan on seeing any more than that - in fact, I'd be surprised if I ever saw that many again in any given year. I would like to see more movies, though - 18 seems too few. There were a lot of good movies I would have liked to have seen but I wasn't able to get motivated to trek to the Barbican to see them. Maybe the new house will make this easier.

I also resolve to have less drama in my life. I'll avoid internet storms like the plague they are, including generally avoiding topics of discussion best had face to face (where people are more prone to realize they're dealing with a person and not with a bulletin board). I'll also continue to occasionally cull people from my life that I feel have a poor ability to control their tempers or otherwise treat me in ways not in keeping with basic tenets of friendship. I've supposedly got my blood pressure under control and my sleep is certainly much better with the reduction in stress I've managed to carve out - I'd like 2009 to be a year in which I'm well rested, mentally level, and not just waiting for the next blow to come. We'll see how well I do with this, but it seems, as the year starts, a good thing to put in writing and remember as a goal.

There's been one resolution I've made for the last two years I'm not making this year.
