I just can't keep up with these young people

I started reading Spook Country again on Friday and now I want to stay up all night and finish reading it. This, I think, would be a bad plan.

I usually hate when people on my flist post song lyrics (poetry is okay, and sometimes great) as I never have any emotional content associated with what songs come up and usually don't know them at all. I get the feeling my mental jukebox (I've been calling it my "inner irony jukebox" lately due to its insistence on playing sappy happy Rogers and Hammerstein stuff) doesn't have any relationship at all to what anybody else likes out in LJ land. But here's my lyrics for tonight:

So far Away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know that you're just time away
Long ago I reached for you, and there you stood
Holding you again could only do me good
How I wish I could, but you're so far away

And of course Carole King always makes me think of my mom.

Anyway, Saturday night, home and in my pyjamas by 10:30. Truly I live the rock and roll lifestyle.
