Flute concert, fog

The "Winds of Time" flute concert was nice. A ton of people showed up (150 or so, from 8 to 80), so it looked like a big success. Of course, what I'm sweating about is HOW the people knew about the concert, because when we're figuring out what to do for next year we need to know how to replicate the formula (time? performers? instruments? cost?).

I found the demonstrations of the modern flute too harsh on my ears after being so used to the warm sound of the wooden pre-Classical era flutes - although the Syrinx piece was very lovely. My favorite of the day was a "Laude," an Italian praise song from the 14th century. It was performed, apparently, on a flute made out of "plumbing" - PVC - but painted black to make it look authentic. Afterwards we went with Stephanie to Top Gun for Dim Sum and caught up on news. I hope she decides not to leave Washington - I feel lucky to have two people living in the city that have known me before 1990, and I'd like to keep them here.
