15 books

Stole this meme from varina8: 15 books you've read that will stick with you forever. No more than 15 minutes to write down, and right off the top of your head. Here's my list.

In Search of Lost Time (all 7 volumes) - Marcel Proust
100 Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Garden of Iden - Kage Baker
The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes
London Fields - Amis
Star Wars (seriously the book, I must have read it 10 times)
Wraethu - Storm Constantine
Sound and the Fury - Faulkner
Wetware - Rudy Rucker
Pattern Recognition - William Gibson
End of Mr Y - Scarlett Thomas
Doomsday Book - Connie Willis
How Proust Can Change Your Life - Alain de Botton
Gossamer Years (Lady Murasaki?)
Charlaine Harris - Dead Until Dawn (etc. - first time I ever saw a book with a lead character that really seemed like me)

Fascinating list. How could I have forgotten 100 Years of Solitude, my first South American read? I'm going to add Rudy Rucker to my to-read list.

We did Garden of Iden in my book club a year or two ago- pretty good book! Glad to see that Charlaine Harris made the list, too. :)

I really need to read that. Especially since it's on the list twice. ;-)

Hehe, my list has the Empire novelisation on it.

1 -Empire Strikes Back Novelisation (I know!) but this was the first book that I owned that actually tore in half because I was re-reading certain bits so much!
2 - Dragonlance - Legend of the Twins (I know! Again!) But I really did like them and they shaped so much of my teengage years!
3 - Heinlein - The moon is a harsh mistress In my early 20s I got into lots of classic sci-fi and this one remains my favourite.
4- The Black Company Songs of the South - the only fantasy series I still re-read.
5- The Hunger
6 - Dream of Red Mansions - 红楼梦 My favourite-ist book EVER! The biggest reason I started learning chinese was so I could read this in the original.
7 - Journey to the West (cause DUH!)
8 - Pusongling - Strange tales from makedo/Chinese studio (no good english translation of the name but the best collection of supernatural short stories.
9 - Kerouac - Big Sur. It all started with on the road, but this story about the alcoholic bender that started because his cat died really got to me.
10- Mrs. Gaskell - Cranford. Because comedy and tradgedy and people just go so well together.
11 - Dunsany - Tales of Wonder - my introduction to dunsany from Bill.
12 HG Wells - War of the worlds - while I prefer his non-scifi this was the book that started my obession with him.
13 Vanity Fair - Thackery
14 Agnes Smedly Daughter of Earth
15 Radcliff Hall - The Well of Loneliness.
