My Saturday was not like your Saturday

Friday night I met eglantinedreams at a bar near work, then went to the very tasty Tay Do for Vietnamese (she was excited about the generous vegetarian menu), then went to a theater in what looked like a garage in a parking lot surrounded by other buildings to see Love Suicides at Sonezaki. Interesting both it and the play we went and saw Saturday afternoon ("Die Shone Mullerin") were about people who kill themselves for love, but they got a little mixed up in my head, so that I was wondering how the lullaby the boy in Mullerin is sung by the river he throws himself into would have been different if it had been sung by a straight razor a la the death instrument in Sonezaki. I also wanted to push him in about a third of the way through the piece but at least the music - sung by the puppeteer - was very good (though the piano seemed not very good).

After dropping eglantinedreams off at Victoria Station yesterday I made it back up to Holloway Road for my very first visit to Big Red at the invitation of robot_mel. I caught up with Brendan there (who handed over my Mariages Freres order fresh from Paris), then he and I went to the Courtyard Theater to see the Dulwich Horrors play I'd written up a preview of some weeks back on my other blog. It was fun, really, slightly overacted in a fringe theater way but good at creating atmosphere, and I love that librarians saved the day. Occult librarians mind you but still.

Then it was another late dinner at Tay Do and my day of two shows was over. Whew. Off to see the last show of the puppet theater season in a few minutes and then the weekend will be over.
