Blockbuster movie lag

I just got back from seeing X2. Aside from the fact that, yes, the political commentary is very relevant to today (just change Xmen to "Al-Quaeda" - or, more honestly, "all Muslims" or "all Arabs," and the hysteria is the same), the movie left me feeling extremely sad that I believe that I now live in a world where having more or less random swat teams descending on people's homes or schools is just not all that unusual. I also feel like no one is standing up to say that it's wrong for things to be this way because they're too busy trying to figure what other liberties they should surrender to the people they foolishly expect to protect them.

But, gosh, it was a great flick otherwise!

Playing the slots

I just finished filing my weekly "certification for benefits," that is, my unemployment claim. This week I'll be getting a pretty fat little check from them thanks to the lack of hours at Q***. The guy I was working with this week described it as getting out of bed, making a cup of coffee, and then pulling the arm of a slot machine and watching it go CHING! CHING! CHING! "A jackpot every time!" I hope he got his hours figured out so he got paid for all the time he DIDN'T work at Q**.

Worthy Opponent is going to be working on a show this week (opens Thursday), so I won't be seeing too much of him in the evenings. He's starting today, so I'm going to head out and do some shopping and stuff - or something, I don't know, I just don't want to sit around the house doing nothing.

Sunday, WO in tech, me ... doing whatever

For all that I thought today was going to be nothing (other than maybe <a href="http://nytimes.com/2003/07/27/magazine/27GOYA.html?8hpib">reading stuff online</a>), it actually ended up better than expected once Worthy Opponent was done with tech at the <a href="http://www.cityofseattle.net/parks/Arts/bathhouse.html>Bathhouse</a>. While I was waiting I went to <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/27/business/yourmoney/27FOOD.html?8br">Trader Joe's</a> and Safeway (woo woo), since we seemed pretty well out of food. When I got home I made pasta salad, and a good thing, too, because shortly before I went to get W.O., Miss Cathy called to take me up on my invitation (from yesterday) to take my game Princes of Florence for a spin! Yay! So we went to her house, food and games in hand, and had us a right nice little game (and I did win, but Cathy will be a force to reckon with the next time she plays) in her pretty lakeside pad. The pasta salad was very well received and went quite nicely with Cathy's daquiris (and the fresh-baked coffee cake that came out of the oven right before the game ended).

For tomorrow - well, I'm not working, so I imagine I might go to Pilates, but otherwise I haven't a clue how to while away the hours of the day. I'd like to get some evening activity together since Worthy O will be busy with tech through Thursday. Maybe I'll work on the website for the Sou'Wester or write one of those letters I have on my to-do list.
