Sea dragon

Back from Portland

What a day. It wasn't a bad day, and fortunately I slept hard in the car on the way down and the way up, meaning I got in very little reading and no sketching at all. (Who was I kidding, anyhow?) We got out of here around 10:30 and made it to Portland at about 1:30, heading immediately to the crepe stand on 10th and Yamhill. (We drove back later and saw that one block further up the street was a "Chaat" truck - Indian vegetarian food. We'll have to try it next time.)

We made it to the Japanese Garden at 2:15, although we didn't actually hook up with Jared and Julia until 2:45 or so ... they wer actually strolling around the rose gardens waiting for us to call them and let them know we had arrived (a difficult task without a cell phone - Worthy Opponent had to go all the way back down the hill and across the parking lot to go find a phone to call them on). We spent about three hours total there, then went to the Portland Obon (Bon Odori) as per the request of their friends (who may be able to hook me up with the ever-elusive Blythe Rouge Noir). After a meal of yakitori, corn on the cob, and strawberry-rhubarb pie, we departed with Jared and Julia in tow, intending to visit at last the Rimsky-Korsakoffee tea room. Alas, they did not open for another half hour, and our intended departure time did not allow us to just hang out in the parking lot of the Plaid Pantry waiting for them to open. So we went to another coffee shop down the street (c'mon, it's Portland, how far do you have to go), chatted for half an hour, dropped them off at Powell's, then headed north. What a day!
