Quiet Thursday - interview, bakery

So far the highlight of my day has been tied between my interview with Ben Rubin, the artist who will be showing at Bumbershoot, and the "Basque Gateau," a filled cake with lemon curd inside that I picked up at Essential Bakery on my way in to work. I'll be taking Worthy Opponent to the airport for his trip to San Diego in about thirty minutes. Evening plans include visit to brother's house and possible trip to see Chicago just one last time in a movie house. (I'm going to see if I can get Bro to drop the visit for tonight so I can guarantee the movie instead.)

Baggin' on Chicago

I can say I'd like to see the 9:25 Chicago but I can't imagine getting motivated to go by myself. And after the looooong drive to and from the airport and the company meeting that's doubtlessly going to keep me at work late, I can't imagine getting home to take care of the dogs and making it to the earlier movie. I hope my brother actually WANTS to see me 'cuz he's got the best game in town right now! (It would be even better if there was food involved ... mmmm ... why have I been hungry all day?) Sorry sallysimpleton! What happened to your night owl days of yore?

The sun, like death, refuses to set

Damn the oppressive sunshine and long days. How I learn to loathe them! After being stuck in traffic three times today (to the airport, from the airport, home from work - leading me to take a merry detour through a greenbelt on the side of Capitol Hill), I find it early and the sun urging me to go out, my lass! And spend the evening in the company of jolly friends (as per my plans). And yet the heat in my office combined with the long delays in traffic has exhausted me and left me wishing only to go to bed. But I can't: the sun is shining and I must still go out and do something. Did this have to be the day that I came home and found that the white dog had gotten into several completely non-dog-intriguing things on the counter, just enough to make a huge mess in the kitchen? Did this have to be the day I said I'd go through item after item rescued from my grandmother's house by my brother? Did this have to be the day I was obliged to stay half an hour late for work to attend a meeting, and then an extra hour late to finish the work the meeting interrupted?

If this were only winter it would already be dark and I could GO TO BED and no one would care.
