Sea dragon

What's happening this week

OK, rwx thinks I occasionally have a clue about fun stuff to do in Seattle. I am of course immensely flattered. If I had time to go out this week (I'm hampered by shadowdaddy's impending departure and ongoing issues with reconstructing the kitchen), I'd be going to see Brown Derby's live action parody of "Fatal Attraction." Here's the blurb from Bald Faced Lie's website (where Brown Derby used to live):

For the many fans out there of the BROWN DERBY SERIES, Ian Bell will be producing another season of screenplay staged-readings at Re-bar in 2004. This year’s theme -- “Crazy Whore”! The Brown Derbies will happen the last Mon, Tue, and Wed of every other month, starting in May. Mark your calendars:

Fatal Attraction May 24, 25, 26
Single White Female July 25, 27, 28
Basic Instinct Sep 27, 28, 29
Show Girls Nov 22, 23, 24

Ah, how I remember going to these crazy event with my many and varied friends! Maybe by the time Show Girls comes around I'll have some more folks to go out with.

In the realms of the unreal Seattle International Film Festival Mapo Tofu and Puerto Rico

In the Realms of the Unreal was a real pleasure tonight, and I wrote up a long, long review of it (which I'm not posting here). Although I waltzed in to an afternoon showing of a documentary, I decided to not take these kinds of risks later, and bought tickets to "Darkness Bride," "Hero" (the 9:15 show was sold out so we'll see the 4 PM Monday show at the Cinerama), and "Goddess" (the silent Chinese movie about prostitutes). I'm open to more movies next week but waiting to see if anyone wants me to go with them to see things.

Afterwards I took my sweet time walking home from Capitol Hill, then picked up dinner (Ma Po Tofu from the Sichuanese Cuisine restaurant) and went to Cathy's for a game of Puerto Rico. I created a new drink while I was there: the black Dahlia, a combination of tequila, blue curacao, and a splash of cranberry juice. It was pretty good - almost as good as beating shadowdaddy at long last.
