Just playing catchup around here

I really regret that so much time the last two days has been spent online. However, this has been necessary household maintenance kind of stuff; buying Christmas presents (yesterday) and finding a place to stay for the Christmas component of New York (the place we've picked seems particularly grim and overpriced). Since I was offline for two days last week and J was in the theater every night for a week, we've had to wait for today to actually get to work on this stuff.

This makes it sound like the last two days have been grim; but this isn't true. Having weegoddess here was really the catalyst for my doing lots of social stuff I might have just given up on (in favor of collapsing in exhaustion and pre-solstice stupor and not leaving my apartment), such as going to a dinner Friday post-J's show opening, going to booklectic's party, and sitting up chatting into the wee hours after we got home from the party. At midnight last night I was lying in front of the fireplace while she sat on my glutes and tried to knead some sense into my basalt-like back. How awesome was that?

J's show Friday night was also a pile of fun; I must encourage to you to see it if you can in the least stomach "A Christmas Carol." It's at the King's Head Theatre in Islington and it is only an hour and a half so you're practically out of the theater and on your way before you know it. It was great to see it with weegoddess and J's minion from Tango Foxtrot; it felt like quite a celebration of the hard work he'd put into the show. My recommendation: get mulled wine before the show, you won't regret it.

Last night's party was a pile of fun, and, as expected, adjectivemarcus made QUITE the beverage for me last night. I am thinking I had a glass of eggnog, two glasses of mulled wine, and one ... Pangalactic Gargle Blaster? Whatever it was, when set aflame it was able to roast the marshmallow suspended inside my glass, and I was duly impressed. Then later I was silly. It was great seeing so many friends I hadn't seen in ages and I felt very ... in the middle of my community, and happy. I loved it. I came home with the best gift from Santa: glow in the dark stars. They'll be on the ceiling of our new place, you'd better believe it.

Okay, so here's my list of things to do for the rest of the day. Running a household - ain't it a peach?

1. Make duck soup (in progress)
2. Hand wash cashmere sweaters
3. Pack a box with glassware (getting a start on the move)
4. Put away clothes
5. Buy J's present
6. Buy tickets for someplace warm for January
7. Make chocolate chip pecan cookies

All in all I think I'm going to be busy right until the end of the day ... and I do really think I'm going to take another nap.
