Sea dragon

Book meme day 16; review, Mike Leigh's Ecstasy

The play Ecstasy is one of the most mis-named theatrical productions I've ever seen. It really should be called misery. That said, it's an incredibly well acted play, and if your idea of a good night is watching some people get drunk in a bed-sit, you're in for a treat. I'm actually still behind in writing my reviews - I don't think I'll catch up before I go on vacation.

I am really liking my roommate but fear she'll be getting a new house sitting job and moving out the end of next month. This will make me mad but I can't help but sympathize with getting a free place to live instead of one that pays.

16. Adaptation: What book would you most like to see made into a film? Do you like to read the book first or see the film? Any books you have read after seeing the film version?

I try to read a book that I think I am likely to enjoy reading before I see the film; it's much easier for me to get through a movie rather than to read a book I already know the details of.

The Shining, I read that after I saw it, and decided the film was much better.

I think I'd really like to see The Silver Spoon, a really good Italian cookbook, made into a movie, as I think it would be a real challenge to bring those recipes to life on stage. Mostly I just don't ever care about books I read being made into movies; people who make movies will find the good books to work on if they want to; God knows they find plenty of bad books already.
