War is only about winning and being alive at the end. It doesn't have morals and honor. It has winning and losing and all winning tactics are winners if you win.
On the other hand there are situations that involve winning end games where being right and making things right may involve tremendous psychological difficulties, because making things right feels like losing.
You have to look at your ends to choose your tactics. Total destruction and standing alone yet triumphant? A short term situation that leads to a long term win? Both? Neither?
