The passive aggressive tango

You know what sucks?

People showing their displeasure with you by removing you from their various online social networks.

You know what else sucks?

People _assuming_ you're angry with them when you do that. But the whole "adjust my online input" to deal with new social realities thing is sucky anyway. I hate reading about all of the stuff people who don't talk to me are doing, it does my head in when I know they wouldn't talk to me if I were standing right in front of them. That's how I stopped being friends with someone I adored, I took her of my flist and she decided I was trying to be dramatic. I was just trying to stop being hurt. But it was an important lesson of some sort.

You know what else sucks?

People who, rather than having a conversation of some sort, tell you you're okay by adding you on social networks. And then you're supposed to notice. It's shockingly passive aggressive.

In short: looking at stuff like that all of the time on all of the places where one has social networks is guaranteed to make you/me batshit crazy, and I try to avoid doing it more than once a year. I think it's been about two years since I last looked hard trying to figure out who had come and gone, and that "never again" would be just about the right frequency for me.

I know it's weak, because how will the people you're on the outs with know you're on the outs with them if you just defriend them? Yet I do this. I'm sorry.

With regards to facebook, I've found the 'acquaintance' list quite useful. It removes people from showing up on your feed without needing to delete them. No potential for drama and you can easily check in with them in future if you want to, yet you don't need to read through their daily goings on.

I'm sure something similar could be set up on livejournal.

"I'm sure something similar could be set up on livejournal"

That's pretty much how I use 'default view'.
