Here's what I'll be doing:
Monday
10.00am Meet your tutors and discuss the project for the week.
A brief illustrated introduction to the week given by James Willis.
Spend the rest of the day drawing in and around the Museum to gather as much material as possible to begin to build your portfolio. Please note that only pencil may be used in the Museum but you will be able to use any medium in the Art Room.
During the day your tutors will be on hand to help you find new ways of drawing and representing your Soane experience. The focus for the day is figures and setting.
Tuesday
Meet at the Royal Academy School, at 10am. This is behind the Royal Academy. To get to the schools walk up Burlington Arcade from Piccadilly and turn right. The entrance is at the far end of the alleyway. The reception desk is inside the main entrance.
Today we will be working at the Royal Academy. The two famous spaces of the Cast Corridor and the Life Drawing Room are your choices for the morning and the afternoon. With your tutors’ help build two drawings exploring these rooms and the special relationship between setting and sculpture.
At the end of the day we will meet in the Life Drawing Room and consider the contribution the RA made to British Art in the Soane period
Wednesday
Meet at the Soane Museum Art Room for 10am.
Today we will be working outside in locations near the Museum using watercolour to represent quick impressions of figures in locations.
We will return to the Museum for lunch.
After lunch we will visit the Adam Research Library to view selected items from the Soane collections which are not normally on public display. Back in the Art Room we will develop our sketches by looking at composition and how to create balance and impact in painting.
Thursday
Meet at the Soane Museum Art Room for 10am.
Today you will be putting together figures and settings from your sketches into a more formal composition. This will be made with a variety of waterbased media mixed to produce spectral tones and be built over a collaged base.
Jaqueline Watt will demonstrate the art of mixing spectrals and the tonal range they give.
Later we will look at the addition of higher key colouring to add to your composition.
Spend the rest of the day building up your painitng(s)
The class continues on Friday with critiques and such but I'm going to Inverness so will be skipping that day. Still: fun!
