reviews: Knight of the Burning Pestle, Hard Rain, Good People, Urinetown

I've seen some real losers lately. Knight of the Burning Pestle was a painful Jacobean comedy and a gorgeous candlelit theater that had me heading for the door at the interval: A Hard Rain took a subject as important as Stonewall and made it boring. How does this happen? It was like it was all punishment for the truly excellent Good People, which was a reward for the "Springtime for Hitler" awfulness that was Urinetown. Win a few, lose a few.

I did have a great time at Superman (the musical) at the Olde Rose and Crown pub in Walthamstow - it was so camp I'm surprised it wasn't in a tent. But it also had really good songs, a kick-ass cast, great dancing, and a plot that was more than interesting enough to string it all together. It's on for one more week - catch it if you can. (Me, I need to write up my review.)
