Kayaking the Nisqually delta

We just got back from a long day's trip on the Nisqually Delta, and the contents of a box of See's chocolates are quickly dropping into my calorie-starved gullet. The river part of the trip was pretty mellow - I guess it can be good for bird watching, but I don't know much about ducks so it wasn't "exciting," although pleasant. After we at our lunch on the beach near the the Nisqually Reach Nature Center, we went across the channel to Anderson Island. This was more fun, as we saw harbor seals and a bald eagle crossing, and all sorts of neat sea life (Dungeness crabs, live sand dollars - they are grey and covered with little spikey things that reminded me of sea urchins, hermit crabs, and cacareous tube worms) just below the surface of the water while we were there. My left shoulder is sore from poor paddling, but we had a great time and I think we got some good photos (eventually to be posted by <lj user="shadowdaddy") AND a hot lead on a double with all equipment - practically free if you compare it to the cost of remodeling the house! I slept like a sun-warmed cat all the way back home and am having a little bit of trouble getting motivated to go to Ceili dancing at the Irish Emigrant. Surely after a little buttered fettucine I will have recovered sufficiently ... Last night Cathy and I did go to the concert, and afterwards to the Merc ... about which more later. It's time to go!
