End of the Sea of Cortez

I finally finished Steinbeck's Log from the Sea of Cortez tonight - the first book I've finished by a "serious" author in a long time (and now two weeks overdue). My intent had been to read it while looking up the sea life in the identification guide I had bought before we went to La Paz; but as it turns out, very few of the animals he mentioned were in my book. I think the original book might have been more informative about the "creatures of the littoral," but that's the version that cost over $100 used and is very much out of print.

I am still interested in learning more about the life in the Sea of Cortez, and I did very much enjoy hearing what the ecology of the region was like in the forties (and thank Searching for Steinbeck's Sea of Cortez for giving me the idea to read this book in the first place). I think, however, my best memory of the book will be remembering reading it last Friday from the sunny patio at work, looking out over the snowy Olympics while in my head I vividly saw Steinbeck, Tiny and the rest of the crew on the deck of the boat, getting ready to jump onto a rocky outcrop and look for strange little sea creatures. I swear, I could almost smell the salt spray.
