I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself right now. The officialgaiman feed I've been on for some time tossed in a reference to Dirk Deppey, editor of The Comics Journal, formerly of Journalista!, who is, as it turns out, a friend from all the way back in fifth grade. We're talking the late 70s here, folks! I Googled him and the millions and millions of hits pieced together into a story that convinced me that yes, this was Dirk of long ago. I also figured out that he was now living in Seattle, or at least likely to be living in Seattle, and a quick email confirmed this! So yay, we'll be hanging out again soon, and I now have a total of three people living in Seattle that know me from the Olde Arizona Daze.'
Otherwise, I'm getting all silly about my trip. I had to change hotels at the last minute, as Tripadelic had booked me in the wrong Garden Court hotel. So now we're at The Caswell, which promises a quiet street and a full breakfast if little else. I also wasted some time today trying to figure out where Brick Lane is, as the New York Times promised a street full of touts offering fine deals on Indian food. Mmm, mmm! Sign me up, baby!
