It's sunny again and I think I'm going to have a quietish day

The Raphael exhibit at the National Gallery was really quite good, though I was sad that it only covered the first half of his short career. When we got there at around 4, it turned out that it required separate admission AND they were selling timed tickets - and the next admission wasn't until 5:30! Happily ciphergoth was as hungry as I was, so we went to Leicester Square and got two toasted ciabatta and discussed politics for the next hour or so. We made a brief tour through a room of "Italy: Venice: 15th Century" paintings before we went downstairs, where the galleries were packed with hoooooordes of people (despite the timed admission). About 1/2 of the exhibit was preparatory drawings, and another 1/6th or so was works by other influential artists, many drawn from the National's own collection or lent "from the collection of HRH the queen." ciphergoth not only seemed to give a rip about how I saw the art, but also was very interested in my ramblings about human nature. Really, the company was very good, and the pleasure I got from it was just as delightful as that received from the art (though the recently restored Alba Madonna was fantastic and worth the price of admission alone).

Of course, the only reason we were able to spend so much time in the exhibit at all was because the gallery was open until 7, and by the time we made it back to Streatham it was already quite late. Once our dinner of takeaway (=delivery) Thai food was eaten, it was past any kind of reasonable time for going back into the city for anything, so the four of us (spikeylady having already retired for the evening as she had a long day of work coming up today) sat around and drank tequila sunrises until we were all feeling quite silly. It was, all in all, a very good day and a very good evening.
