I'm an hour later getting into work than normal, thanks to getting to bed at 12:15 AM. Karaoke wasn't even that fun, mostly because I was TERRIBLE. Far From Heaven was good, but not as good as All That Heaven Allows. Julianne Moore's performance was just too stiff. I was glad I'd seen the other movie first, since it allowed me to appreciate a lot of the scenes that were set up to mirror the Sirk film, such as the autumn settings, the Christmas tree lot, the visit to the butcher shop, the catty neighbor who wore leopard spots, the falsely supportive best friend. And I didn't expect the husband to play such a central role, or that he would be the one who had a "happy ending." Why was it he was able to escape society's strictures but she couldn't?
