Next up was a kind of spontaneous trip to the National Gallery to see the exhibit Stubbs and the Horse. While the horses were pretty, I was mostly reminded of why I don't care for 18th century painting. I wouldn't recommend people go see it; while I'm sure it's meaningful that this person has had a retrospective, it's pretty much a snooze.
This gave me plenty of time to get in a little shopping at B Never Too Busy to Be Beautiful, where I found rather a lot of overpriced makeup items I was unable to resist. From there it was on to Throgmortons, which is apparently the only bar in the City that isn't painfully crowded on a Friday night. I was met there by lilithmagna, katyha, bathtubgin, ciphergoth, spikeylady, and xxxlibris, and two other people I think are not on LJ.
We left at what we thought was a reasonable time and returned to Streatham. I immediately got to work making the vegetarian gumbo recipe from the Sundays at Moosewood cookbook, but got dinner on the table very late. Nonetheless I got high props for actually making something everyone liked, and watching spikeylady go back to the kitchen an hour later and get seconds was tremendously gratifying.
Tomorrow - very small plans, go to the caf down the street in the morning, hit Camden in the afternoon, and clubbing in the night. It should be a fun day!
