Review of "The End of the Affair" at Seattle Opera

One sentence synopsis: "My girlfriend cheated on me ... with God!"
Best snarky comment: "That was clearly the end of the affair, so do we really need to come back after intermission?"
Surprising movie parallel: The Return of the King ("They had, like, what, four endings? I'm surprised the bed didn't sail away to the Gray Havens once the chick died.") Really bad LOTR fan art here, in case you go for high irony. It will hurt you like the opera hurt me.

Let's see: the characters had no character, and the music wasn't musical. After the show was over, we went to Larry's Market, where I bought fancy dark chocolate ice cream bars to take the taste of the opera out of my mouth. shadowdaddy decided he needed something stronger, and chose fancy German beer to ease his pain.

I will keep going to see modern opera, but ... they need to be better than this was. I can at least say that the Carmen we saw two weeks ago was worse, but ... that's not really praise.
